-
The pass rate in Intermediate Algebra courses increased by 12%.
-
Historically, one of the primary causes of failure in both Math 010 and Math 110 had been the tendency of students to neglect the necessary drill of homework problems. With MyMathLab, more than 95% of all students enrolled in these two courses are turning in 100% of their daily homework assignments. The average score on those assignments is more than 95% correct.
-
Through it all, students are getting better grades and getting through more content because more work is getting done overall. And since the instructors are able to track how many times students have visited the online math site and can see what work students have done and what they've had trouble with, instructors are better able to help students who may be having problems.
-
There is one more change as well. In order to officially pass either course, students must now acquire a grade of "C" or better, instead of slipping by with a "C-" or "D" grade and moving on to the next math course without the proper understanding of the basics. Since the computer does the grading, nothing is graded on a curve--therefore, students have a better understanding of the details they need before moving on.
-
And by increasing understanding of the course material, UW-Stout is beginning to succeed at doing what it set out to do with the Math Teaching and Learning Center--helping students succeed in math.
