My experience with MML has been wonderful. It's given me a reason to be passionate about mathematics. I went back to school at 24 without any direction of where I wanted to go. I knew I'd have to take some math courses but was very intimidated by college-level math - particularly because I hadn't done anything of the sort in 6 years. I started in pre-algebra and while I studied hard and received A's, I can already see how having MML from the first course would have been beneficial. One word can summarize why: reinforcement. It's nearly impossible to remember every single word your instructor says. My intermediate algebra teacher required the use of MML and I was very hesitant. I almost didn't take the course from her because of that. However, I did and it was the best thing I could have done.

In my opinion, the most important part of MML is the "Help me solve this" button. I try to use it sparingly, but it eliminates the unnecessary amount of time spent getting discouraged over something that could potentially be a simple fix. It boosted my self-esteem when the errors became less and less, and I realized that I really understood the material. I ended up with a 97% overall in the class and received a 100% on the last two tests including the final exam.

With this type of success I realized that the only way to learn math is to practice without being discouraged. MML allows me to do this. Immediately following that course, I bought another MML course and started studying trigonometry with about one month in between Spring/Summer session of this year. The course itself didn't require MML but I knew that it provided enough resources to teach myself. By the time the course started I was already over halfway through the book with a solid understanding of the subject. I used it to review for tests and it made the subject (even over summer session) a lot easier. I passed with a 98% and with less stress than most courses.

Immediately following trigonometry, I bought MML for college algebra , which is my last pre-calculus course (again, the course doesn't require MML but I chose to study it on my own). It's been wonderful to always be ahead. The fact that I don't have to get "stuck" on a concept is amazing and makes doing math problems significantly more fun. I look forward to using it in calculus. Additionally, MML material generally has a wide variety of problems with various difficulties. My personal standard is that if you know the material in MML, you're set for any test.

I realize most students may not be as enthusiastic as I am about math. That's a fact and that's why we choose different majors. Regardless, it can help students pass a class that's required of them without the struggle of paging through a thick textbook or relying on someone else to explain it to them. Additionally, using MML in lower levels of mathematics would give students an extremely solid foundation that might make higher level math easier and less intimidating. With this realization and understanding, it might potentially open more doors, as it did for me.

Thank you very much!!

Professor: Remember when I told you about me having trouble on solving linear equations? Well, I just did the homework (1.4) and with all the help it gives me, I was able to do them correctly. I am in love with this site! Just thought to let you know. See you tomorrow!  (This is from a student who thought that a technology-based class would be hard for her. She has now changed her mind.)

Hey I love MyMathLab. It has made it possible for me to actually sit down and learn math. I actually feel like there is someone or something there to help me along if I get stuck with a problem. I credit a lot of my passing grades to MyMathLab and thank you very much.

Last semester I took a Statistics course through Mohawk College which utilized the MyMathLab platform. I have not had much success in comprehensively learning math concepts, but MyMathLab was an absolute god-send! I loved how it showed you step-by-step how to work through problems in an easy-to-follow format. If MyMathLab was included in every math course, I would be taking a whole lot more math courses. Fantastic program!

Here's what calculus students at Whitworth University are saying about MyMathLab:

  • I believe that it is nice to start out with the online problems when a student first learns the section, then it is important to go to book work where a student has to really apply what they have learned. Also, the online course is really helpful when studying for tests because they have a bunch of extra practice problems to do.
  • I like how it is set up with grades and you can see your progress in class as well as look up old homework assignments.
  • It allowed me to practice problems multiple times and know when I was wrong. The examples are always helpful and help me understand concepts.
  • I like having immediate feedback (with a correct answer) if you get a problem wrong, then giving you a similar but different problem to try. It was a huge help in my learning of calculus.
  • I can get immediate feedback on what I'm doing wrong, which means I stay focused and end up understanding how to do problems.
  • If I do not understand a concept that the teacher has gone over, there's usually a problem over it in the online homework which has an explanation for how to do it.
